March 20th 2004

The resistance against the Iraq war was not over yet. Over 2 million people in 700 cities and towns worldwide protested on this global day of action. In Malta we had our own demonstrations too. Click here for pics

As part of the global movement for world peace, Moviment Graffitti organised a demonstration for peace, in order to keep voicing its oppostion to war and its support for peace. Moviment Graffitti invited all progressive organisations and individuals to take part in the peace march

The peace march was organised in conjunction with thousands of similar activities around the world as part of the assembly of the International Movement Against War and the World Social Forum in order to mark the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.

The demonstration took place on Saturday 20th March and commenced at 1pm in National Road, Blata l-Bajda (where the circus used to be). The march proceeded to Valletta and ended with a live concert in Freedom Square, with the participation of Dripht, Vince Fabri, Particle Blue, Subculture.

In a PR Moviment Graffitti said that day:

"A year has passed since commencement of the invasion carried out by the USA and its allies over Iraq. Many people, both Iraqis as well as foreign, keep being killed due to the effects of war. Many Iraqis have ended up without a job, and the country is being reigned by oppression, poverty, insecurity and violence. . The same can be said of the situation in Afghanistan, where the regime that has replace the Taliban tyranny did not bring about progressive change, and where oppression, especially on women, keeps reigning."

"Moviment Graffitti maintains that Malta, as one of the few neutral countries in the European Union, should be a voice in favour of world peace. Through the entry of warships in its ports, Malta is being accomplice to the deaths of innocent people. All progressives should oppose the entry of warships in Malta."

Febrauray 15th 2003

Some say this was the biggest anti-war march ever... despite the rain. In Malta 1000 people protested against the Iraq war that started a few months later. All over the world 10,000,000 people protested against the Iraq war.
