Past Activities

Letter to MPs demanding changes in the detention policy

Wednesday 23rd March 2005. Activists from Moviment Graffitti presented a letter demanding reforms in the government's detention policy. The organizations on behalf of which the letter was presented are demanding the following:

  • condition improve and people in these centres do not keep on being kept like "battery chicken"
  • the 18 month policy is reduced
  • improvement in conditions, toiletries, showers, private space
  • human dignity, not handcuffed when going to hospital
  • media access in detention centres

    Sleep Out in solidarity with the detainees

    On the 5th of March 2005, Moviment Graffitti and Third World Group held a sleep out activity at Freedom Square Valletta in solidarity with the people in detention. The activity was supported by various NGOs and prominent people. Both groups are protesting the pro-longed periods of detention and the abhorrent conidtions detainees are kept in.
