Why Protest Against McDonald's?
There are several reasons why people hate McDonald's. The following are some:
Environment. McD are responsible for the destruction of tropical forest to make space for ranching. They also produce over one million
tons of packaging.
Nutrition. Food sold at McD are responsible for serious diseases such as cancer, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
Advertising. McD spends over 2 billion dollars each year on advertising. Using toys, Ronald Mc Donald and children TV/radio programmes they bombard the media with McD promotions.
Employment. McD employ around 1 million workers around the world. Some argue that these one million can be out of work, other argue that these are in fact a net destroyer of jobs
by using low wages and the huge size of their business to destroy smaller local food outlets.
Animals. McD slaughter hundreds of thousands of cows per year. In Europe alone they use half a million chickens per week; all from factory farms. These animals suffer great cruelty during their unnatural short life. Many being kept in small cages without freedom of movement, fresh air and sunshine.
Monocultural. McD sells a very small limited range of food items most of which is common world wide. With their massive advertising campaigns these products are destroying other food cultures in different cultures. In India, where the population mostly vegetarian and cow is sacred McD opened a chain.
