Moviment Graffitti is celebration the international day against racism and youth day by launching the campaign All different All equal. The awareness campaign will be specifically targeted at the youth community, as a result of which Moviment Graffitti will carry out the project with local youth centres as well as with other youth non-governmental organisations. This project has also been submitted to the Youth programme as an action 3 project.

The theme and content of the project was selected in view of the current international and local asylum-seeking situation, which is observed to be translating itself into a lack of tolerance and discrimination towards racial minorities within the local community. The project is thus aimed at achieving more in-depth awareness of racial problems affecting the local community through the issue of asylum seeking and illegal immigration. It is also aimed at constructing effective measures whereby young people identify and confront racial attitudes. This would hopefully make the young people more conscious of the divergence in the international community as well as instil awareness about the importance of being active and effective citizens in the campaign against racism.

The project is envisaged to be carried out through various educational and awareness campaigns aimed at reaching a vast youth audience. As a result, the project is going to be held within different areas and environments of the local community with the aim of achieving a broader youth audience. Through the various aspects of the project, the youth community will have the opportunity to involve itself in the project and contribute to the struggle again racism and discrimination. The ultimate aim is that through endevour in this project, the young people in the local community will have a more transparent and factual access to the racism issue whereby they will be in a better position to engage constructively on the issue and contribute to the national discussion that is currently high on the media and nation’s agenda.

Since the ‘All Different, All Equal’ project is going to be conducted mainly with youth, the movement is also going to have the benefit of a youth worker. The youth worker is doing his field work placement with Moviment Graffitti as part of his youth and community studies course. The input of the youth worker will provide young people with the opportunity to explore and gain different methods of expressing themselves and talk about issues of their concern with other youths in a more constructive environment. The young people who will be taking part in the project (both organisers and participants) will be encouraged to speak and express their thoughts, feelings and opinions about the issue and will also be provided with the opportunity to express themselves on how as a community we should tackle the issue of racism to result in a more coherent society.

The project also aims to provide young people with greater self-awareness and personal confidence, which are two highly important needs in self-growth, as well as influential factors on the precepts of racial attitudes. The project also aims to provide youths with the opportunity to come to better personal understanding, as to why they come to uphold certain ideas and pre-conceptions in regards interpersonal relationships. Such awareness would hopefully help them to become more aware of the social environment they are living in and also more conscious of their relation to other citizens of the world. This would hopefully make the young people more conscious of the divergence in the international community as well as instil awareness about the importance of being active and effective citizens in the campaign against racism.

At the end of the project, it is deemed important that the information gathered through this project is shared with the wider local community, for the creation of awareness on the issue and the stimulation of citizen’s discussion.. Moviment Graffitti is planning to do this in various different ways, such as the printing and distribution of material, the organisation of activities in divergent youth centers and the creation of a network between youth centers and organisation involved in the struggle against racism. The positive impact of the project will thus be observed if it manages to raise awareness and istill the realisation that different people from different cultures can live together in harmony if we share the notion that we are all different but all equal. Therefore, it is acknowledged that the relevance of the project is highly dependent on the involvement of the local community, in particular that of the younger generation which is the future of tomorrow.
