Front Kontra l-Golf Kors welcomes Rabat Local Council Decision

Press Release issued on 29th April 2004
Motion against Golf Kors passed on 14th April 2004

The Front Kontra l-Golf Kors expressed its satisfaction with the decision of Rabat Local Council to oppose the proposed development of a Golf Course at Verdala.

"The Rabat Local Council's decision to oppose the proposed development of a golf couse at Verdala is in line with its declared policy to be in favour of investment, work, sustainable development and land. The Front Kontra l-Golf Kors endorses this position, which safeguards the quality of life of Rabat residents in general and the Verdala farming community in particular. We note with satisfaction that only one local councilor voted against the Local Council's motion."

"The Front Kontra l-Golf Kors is publicly inviting the spokespersons for agriculture of all political parties to declare or reaffirm their position with regard to the proposed golf course at Verdala. We are also inviting all politicians representing Rabat to put forward their views."

"The Front Kontra l-Golf Kors reminds the public that apart from the Archbishop and the Church weekly Il-Gens Illum, a large number of local organizations have declared publicly that they are against the project. These include the Progressive Farmers Union, Din l-Art Helwa, the Jesuit Province in Malta, Friends of the Earth (Malta), Nature Trust, Moviment Graffitti, Alternattiva Demokratika, the Malta Labour Party, Inizjamed, Move! Organisation, Zminijietna, Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh, International Animal Rescue, Azzjoni Pozittiva, Vegetarian Society, Pembroke Residents Association, University Chaplaincy, Malta Organic Agriculture Movement, Kopin, and Farmers' Central Co-Operative Society. Various opinion makers, including exponents of the Nationalist Party are also opposing the proposed development."
