DESCRIPTION:It’s 1994. A group of University students band together to form Moviment Graffitti\, a leftist movement “against the oppression and exploitation of people\, the environment and animals\, with a vision of freedom and radical democracy”. Very soon\, they will be taking on the development of a golf course on agricultural land and the Hilton towers project. \n25 years later\, Moviment Graffitti is still active\, with the same ideals\, picking on bigger battles with bigger enemies. \nR/Evoluzzjoni25 is a showreel of Moviment Graffitti’s story\, seen through the eyes of former members like Mary Grace Vella\, Chris Mizzi and James Debono\, author Alex Vella Gera\, journalists Karl Schembri and Matthew Vella\, activists like Andrea Dibben\, Joseph Bartolo and many others. \nR/Evoluzzjoni25 is the story of Moviment Graffitti’s fights for social justice\, the environment\, and civil liberties\, against greed\, corruption and injustice\, with a keen look to the future. \nAfter the screening a panel discussion on “The Aesthetics of Activism” will be held\, moderated by author and journalist Ramona Depares. \nDate and Time: Sunday\, 26 February 2020\, 7.30pm \nVenue:  Spazju Kreattiv Cinema \nFree Entrance\, but booking is required \nTickets: here. \nDuration: 25 minutes + debate \nIn Maltese with English subtitles

SUMMARY:The Help - Film Night
DESCRIPTION:Moviment Graffitti invites you to the screening of “The Help”\, a 2011 film directed by Tate Taylor and adapted from Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel. \nThe film takes place in the 1960s in the US\, when the civil rights movement was rising but black people were still facing abhorrent racial discrimination in all aspects of their lives. The Help talks about the harshness experienced by black women working as maids with rich white families\, but also about their friendship\, complicity and happy moments. The lives of the characters of the film starts to change when a young white woman aspiring to become a journalist decides to write about the injustice faced by the Afro-American women working as maids. \nFebruary is known as Black History month in the US and Canada\, with the intention of remembering the injustice and discrimination faced by black people in these countries in the past centuries\, and to raise awareness about racism still present in society today. \nThe screening will be followed by an open discussion\, drinks and nibbles. \nFree entrance.
