DESCRIPTION:Open Mic to Commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. \n The 25th of November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Although the elimination of violence against women\, unfortunately\, remains a dream\, we will continue fighting towards that end. \n One of the activities we are organising to mark the day is an open mic with the theme – There’s Power in her Words – on Friday\, 26th November at Maori Club in Valletta\, starting at 8.00 p.m. \n We invite women to come and share their powerful words with us on the day to help us raise awareness about this and other issues which women are still facing in this patriarchal society. Women may read their own words or the words of others\, they may read poetry\, parts from a book\, short stories or even sing. Reading and singing in any language are welcome. SUMMARY:Thrift for Solidarity - Fundraiser for Turkish/Syrian LGBTIQ+
DESCRIPTION:MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Turkey and Syria. \nOur community members will host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. Food will also be available. Everyone is welcome.\nLater on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \nThe earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria have left the diaspora across the world in shock. What might just be another news item for some of us in Malta is an indescribable trauma\, the magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in Turkey and Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \nThis is why we are carefully researching the organisations to send money to. In the following days we will be introducing these organisations to you (if we can) and we guarantee that every cent raised will benefit the LGBTQI+ community in the region. \nMassive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

DESCRIPTION: MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Syria. \n While for a lot of Maltese\, the earthquake was a news item that we heard of earlier this year\, people are still suffering from the after effects\, causing an indescribable trauma to a magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. \n While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in. Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. \n Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \n Having already done one for a Turkish organisation last March\, we were also meant to fund for a Syrian organisation\, however\, for reasons mentioned above\, this required a bit more research and logistics\, to ensure that the funds will ultimately reach the community. \n We will be raising funds for SGSE/SEEN\, who you can see more about here: https://www.instagram.com/sgse.syria/ \n This will be done thanks to our community members who will return to host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. \n Everyone is welcome. \n Later on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \n Massive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

Francesca Zammit from YPB will bring her sewing machine to help us out with creativity. You may also bring an old T-shirt/other fabric and we will transform them into a tote bag during the workshop. \nWe will also have some ready-made tote bags waiting to be transformed into creative and colourful pieces of feminist art. \nThe workshop will last about 2 hours. SUMMARY:Screening of 'Land and Freedom' in occasion of Dia de la II República
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the screening of Land and Freedom (Tierra y Libertad) on the occasion of the Spanish Dia of II República. \nLand and Freedom is a 1995 film directed by Ken Loach and written by Jim Allen. It narrates the story of a British communist unemployed worker who decides to join the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. The Republicans were a coalition of democratic parties and ideologies including communists\, socialists and anarchists\, against a fascist coup d’état of Spanish militaries supported by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. \nEl Dia de la II República\, Day of the Second Spanish Republic\, takes place yearly on the 14th of April. On that day in 1931\, following democratic elections and the abdication and exile of King Alphonso XIII\, the Second Republic was declared. \nIt was a democratic period with various progressive and conservative governments that achieved significant advancements such as granting women the right to vote\, implementing major educational initiatives\, supporting cultural and scientific endeavours\, challenging the privileges of the Church\, and promoting a plurinational state among others. This period was suddenly interrupted by a coup d’état in 1936\, which initiated a three-year civil war leaving more than 500.000 people dead and resulting in a fascist dictatorship that lasted 38 years. \nEntrance is free\, and drinks and nibbles will be available.
