DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of creativity as part of our events around this year’s Women’s Day. \nYou can bring an old tote bag and transform it into a feminist one with fabric markers and paints\, or even stick/sew a piece of material on top of unwanted adverts/words on your tote bag. Francesca Zammit from YPB will bring her sewing machine to help us out with creativity. You may also bring an old T-shirt/other fabric and we will transform them into a tote bag during the workshop. \nWe will also have some ready-made tote bags waiting to be transformed into creative and colourful pieces of feminist art. \nThe workshop will last about 2 hours. Throughout it we will also be able to chat\, have a drink and chill. \nThis is a safe space activity: women\, non-binary & trans people\, queers and allies are welcome. SUMMARY:Screening of 'Land and Freedom' in occasion of Dia de la II República
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the screening of Land and Freedom (Tierra y Libertad) on the occasion of the Spanish Dia of II República. \nLand and Freedom is a 1995 film directed by Ken Loach and written by Jim Allen. It narrates the story of a British communist unemployed worker who decides to join the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. The Republicans were a coalition of democratic parties and ideologies including communists\, socialists and anarchists\, against a fascist coup d’état of Spanish militaries supported by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. \nEl Dia de la II República\, Day of the Second Spanish Republic\, takes place yearly on the 14th of April. On that day in 1931\, following democratic elections and the abdication and exile of King Alphonso XIII\, the Second Republic was declared. \nIt was a democratic period with various progressive and conservative governments that achieved significant advancements such as granting women the right to vote\, implementing major educational initiatives\, supporting cultural and scientific endeavours\, challenging the privileges of the Church\, and promoting a plurinational state among others. This period was suddenly interrupted by a coup d’état in 1936\, which initiated a three-year civil war leaving more than 500.000 people dead and resulting in a fascist dictatorship that lasted 38 years. \nEntrance is free\, and drinks and nibbles will be available.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for another screening leading up to International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. \n‘Sisters’ is a 2023 documentary directed by Marianna Fumai. It explores the challenges that people in Malta\, Italy\, and Poland face when trying to access abortions. The documentary also highlights the solidarity shown by national and international groups\, who work together to ensure self-determination and access to reproductive rights. \nMarianna Fumai is an author\, film editor\, and director. She is also an educator\, an intersectional feminist\, and a reproductive rights activist. She visited Malta in 2019 to meet with abortion rights activists and to witness the first Safe Abortion Day Rally. \nAfter the screening\, the director will be online with us for some questions about the documentary. Lesbian Visibility Day is dedicated to the awareness of lesbians\, their issues\, and their importance in queer history. \nTo commemorate this day\, this year we will be holding a zine workshop to pay tribute to the riot grrrl culture and its connection to lesbians. We will meet at 67\, Strait Street\, Valletta at 18:00. \nThis event will be facilitated by Lana and Elio\, who will give a short presentation about riot grrrl & queer history and a demonstration on making your own zines accompanied by queer music and good vibes. \nWe will be providing some magazines\, markers\, lino stamps\, glue\, crafts knives and papers\, but each are encouraged to bring their own supplies as we may be limited. \ne will provide some snacks to share but feel free to bring your own. DESCRIPTION:Nhar is-Sibt 17 ta’ Mejju\, il-Moviment Graffitti flimkien mal-MGRM se jorganizzaw mixja interessanti ġewwa l-Gżira flimkien ma Omar N’Shea li se joħodna lura fil-passat bir-rakkonti tiegħu u kwirżitajiet oħra dwar imkejjen ewlenin fil-Gżira marbutin mal-komunità LGBTIQ+. \nSe niltaqgħu fil-11.00 ta’ filgħodu fejn il-latrini ta’ maġenb il-Bus Stop Lounge u flimkien nimxu matul Ġnien il-Kunsil tal-Ewropa\, ngħaddu minn Triq Testaferrata u Triq l-iMsida\, nidħlu l-Orfeum\, u ninżlu x-Xatt. \nWara l-mixja se nibqgħu sejrin Manoel Island biex nieklu u nixorbu flimkien. Ġibu l-ikel u x-xorb magħkom. Qegħdin ngħaqqdu din l-attività mal-kampanja Manoel Island – Post Għalina għax l-ispazji pubbliċi qegħdin għalina biex ingawduhom u aħna hekk se nagħmlu. \nDin il-mixja se ssir biex infakkru l-Jum Internazzjonali kontra l-Omofobija\, l-Bifobija u t-Transfobija (IDAHOBIT)\, fi kliem ieħor huwa l-jum fejn niftakru f’kemm hawn persuni li jsofru mibgħeda\, diskriminazzjoni\, preġudizzji u inġustizzji minħabba li ma jikkonformawx mal-aspettattivi soċjali u kulturali tal-ġeneru u s-sesswalità. \nInħossu li għandna nagħtu importanza lil dan il-jum għax nemmnu li kull persuna għandha dritt tesprimi u tgħix il-ġeneru u s-sesswalità tagħha kif tixtieq hi mingħajr persekuzzjoni\, mibgħeda u diskriminazzjoni. \nNisperaw li narawkom biex flimkien insiru nafu ftit kwirżitajiet mill-passat! \nOmar N’Shea huwa akkademiku\, kittieb u riċerkatur. \nL-informazzjoni se tingħata bil-Malti.
